Memac Ogilvy Dubai wins Agency of the Year

Written by AdNation Editor, Thursday, 18 March 2010

Dustvertising won Memac Ogilvy the Direct Grand Prix.Last night saw the announcement of the winners of the Dubai Lynx Awards 2010. It was a good night for Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai, which grabbed top spot in the Agency of the Year rankings thanks to a great performance outside of the ‘traditional’ categories of Print and TV. As regional creative director Till Hohmann told AdNation on Tuesday night at the Creative Club meet ‘n’ greet, his agency is one of a handful that’s actually following through on all of last year’s talk about ‘consumer engagement’ and ‘creating dialogue’. Hohmann was very proud of the fact that the vast majority of his agency's entries were in “modern categories”. A wise choice, it seems. And Memac deserves to be lauded for its commitment to forward thinking.

Congratulations are also due to Starcom MediaVest Group, Dubai, which once again won Media Agency of the Year, and JWT, which won Network of the Year, thanks to strong showings from its Dubai, Cairo and Beirut offices.

And TV saw some familiar faces returning to the fore, with Leo Burnett Cairo winning for its Melody TV campaign, which jury president Amir Kassaei described as “one of the best pieces I’ve ever seen in my life”. It's the third time in four years that that combination of agency and client has picked up the big TV prize.

It wasn’t just the old-school agencies that did well, however. Dark horse of this year must be the Cairo-based boutique agency Elephant, which came from pretty much nowhere to pick up a Gold in the TV category as well as the Print and Integrated Grands Prix. Impressive work for what appears to be a two-man agency.

North Africa did very well all round, picking up five of the eight Grands Prix on the night, including a first for Tunisia in the Interactive section. Here’s a full list of the big prize winners:

Media Grand Prix: Starcom MediaVest Group, Dubai, for Chevrolet’s ‘Confessions of Corporate Spies’.
