IAA launches workshop series

Written by AdNation Editor, Monday, 01 March 2010

Nicolas ChidiacThe first in a series of workshops from the UAE Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) will take place on Tuesday, March 9th. It’s a presentation by Leo Burnett’s charming and erudite Nic Chidiac, entitled “Death of An Insight”, which focuses on media activities.

According to the press release, the series is “designed to complement existing sources of training, and help develop wider skill sets for junior to mid-level communications executives.” Which we can all agree is a good thing. And necessary.

In the release, the Chairman of the UAE IAA’s Events and Talent Committee, Kamal Dimachkie, says the series will offer “relevant, affordable and accessible training that addresses the core competencies required to improve performance for ourselves, our clients and our industry in today’s tough market.” One way we can think of to improve the performance of the communication industry is to never, ever, ever use the phrase “core competencies”.

Future topics, we’re told, will include digital media, creativity, the role of PR (insert your own snarky comment here) and, intriguingly, the “media/customer journey”.

The workshops will run through to September, apparently. Really? Pity the poor sods who get the July gigs.
