Dnata has launched Camel Polo, aimed at catching the eye of visitors to Dubai.
Possibly in recognition that there’s only so far posh hotels and over-sized shopping malls can propel your brand into the tourist consciousness, Dnata will be Dubai’s newest sport as an innovative hook to snag the minds of shopped-out sight-seers.
“Dnata is always looking for ways to enhance our range of products and services. It is important that visitors to Dubai can enjoy a variety of different experiences and that is why we have decided to add camel polo to our portfolio,” said Adrian Sime, business development manager at Dnata Travel Services, quoted on ArabianBusiness.com.
The rather posh nature of polo has apparently not deterred Dnata, which will be running camel polo matches at Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club.
This could well be a nifty piece of marketing, especially given that Sterling’s plunging value will discourage British visitors to Dubai (who will be, let’s face it, target number one for polo). Those UK visitors that do make the trip are likely to be looking for alternatives to shopping, and a bit of trad-culture-with-a-twist could go down well.
Also, the chance to work with skilled polo-playing camels, at “the peak of fitness and skill” according to AB.com, is surely something no tourist would want to pass up.
