ADMC wins F1 broadcast rights

Written by AdNation Editor, Wednesday, 03 March 2010

Cars going round and round very fast.Gulf News reports that Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) has secured the exclusive MENA region broadcast rights for the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2010 to 2012. The races will apparently be broadcast free-to-air on Abu Dhabi Al Riyadiya 2 for Arabic speakers. English-language commentary will be available for E-Vision subscribers.

It’s not as big a coup as ADMC’s recent capture of the English Premier League broadcast rights for the MENA region, but it’s a fair bet that there will be plenty of regional advertisers interested in getting on board. Plus, the average Formula One race lasts a lot longer than a football match, and offers more opportunities for ad breaks. The deal is also yet another sign of Abu Dhabi’s growing dominance of the UAE’s media scene – compare and contrast with what Dubai Sports has to offer, for example. Or don’t. It’s a bit cruel.
