Zeenah splits into bits

Written by Eliot Beer, Monday, 11 May 2009

Mohammad Al FareiTBWA\Zeenah, the Oman affiliate of the global marketing group, has hived off its events, media and PR divisions, reflecting the growing demand in the Omani market, or some such thing.

“The creation of these new specialised business means we now have the ability to offer and deliver highly specialized and enhanced communication services to our clients within a dynamic group framework,” said Mohammad Al Farei, Zeenah Group general manager, in a press release.

“Traditionally many marketers in Oman were forced to look to other markets for expertise in communications services – but we are committed to offering existing and future clients the very best range of talent here in our own country,” he added.

Refreshingly, the group has resisted the urge to give the new divisions silly names, and is rebranding the various bits as Zeenah Media, Zeenah Events, Zeenah... well, you get the idea.

Events will be headed up by Jason Clarke, who has worked with (or at least partied with) 70% of the Fortune 500. Media will be helmed by Ila Thakur, who has a clutch of big adworld names under her belt. PR falls to Kevin Hasler, a former hack who has subsequently flacked for plenty of PR luminaries.

The TBWA\Zeenah advertising business (yes, it still does that as well...) also gets a new top bod, in the form of Ian Butlin, formerly head of the account management department at the agency.

“I am confident that we have assembled the most talented and qualified senior communications management team in Oman who will be able to deliver international quality strategic communications consultancy, outstanding creative solutions, innovative events and dynamic media purchasing approaches,” said Al Farei in the release.

We’ll look forward to lots of exciting new initiatives coming out of Oman. And should any of the Zeenah divisions feel like flying AdNation out there to see what they’re up to first hand (possibly accompanied by a week-long stay in some five-star resort), well, we can always talk about it.
