The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and National Media Council, have made their decision in the eight-way race for a partner to start its TV monitoring programme. Er, except it won’t say who the winner is. In one of the more epically pointless press releases we’ve seen, the TRA announced that it had made its decision, and proceeded to keep quiet about the lucky company. Evidently someone somewhere decided that the mere act of making a decision was news-worthy, and decided to press ahead without actually being able to tell the world anything. In a moment of high farce, the release on WAM even includes a quote from the mysterious winner. Below is the quote, verbatim from WAM: "We are proud to have been selected amongst a pool of world-class players for this project. We are also fully dedicated to supporting the National Media Council on this important initiative which will provide TV audiences with a voice, helping to guide broadcasters to program shows and attract more advertisements" the company affirmed. Sigh. Anyway, now the partner is on-board, the real work begins, starting with eight weeks of exciting prep-work, according to WAM. We’ll bring you more just as soon as we know who’s actually been signed.
