Sedar goes talent-free for latest ad

Written by Eliot Beer, Wednesday, 12 August 2009

A friend of ours used to say: “If wit were shit, I’d be constipated.” We all thought this was terribly funny – well, at least the first couple of dozen times we heard it.

But it remains as quite a versatile analogy. For example, if talent were shit, the people that made this Sedar ad wouldn’t have had to go to the toilet for months:

We especially like the way that the subtitles, the awful, awful, voiceover and the blank-faced-automaton-woman’s lips are all working to subtly different versions of the script. We won’t get on to the script itself.

A heartbreaking work of staggering genius? No. A pile of stinking animal offal? Quite possibly.

But you know what? We’d STILL rather have this than the happy-Arab-family-with-cheerful-uncomplaining-yet-slightly-cheeky-housewife.

Really.

I ranted about their ads on Twitter (and at work, on occasion) a few months ago. They're traumatising!
