Emaar has revealed the astonishing and controversial winner of the competition to name the fountain next to the Burj Dubai. The winner is:
The Dubai Fountain.
Wow.
Apparently 15 people, out of the 4,000 or so that entered, came up with this truly startling display of originality, and will share the Dhs100,000 prize.
The scope of the achievement of this competition cannot be overstated, managing to replicate a process that would, if left to skilled professionals, have taken literally seconds on the back of a napkin.
“The name Dubai Fountain is simple, has instant brand recall and above all, celebrates the global standing of Dubai as a multicultural destination and home to over 180 nationalities. Dubai Fountain is our tribute to this city, which serves as a platform for thousands of people to realise their dreams and enjoy a vibrant, modern lifestyle,” gushed Emaar chairman Mohamed Ali Alabbar in a statement, as quoted by ArabianBusiness.com.
Better than the chairman’s quote though, these two reader comments posted to the AB.com story show a true level of respect for the wisdom and insight shown by Emaar’s judges:
Genius posted by ‘Thunderbolt’: “a group of 15 gifted individuals will share the prize. Truly deserving.”
and:
WOW posted by ‘sid’: “It is a brilliant choice for a name. Only if I had thought of it [sic].”
Quite.
