New regional CEO for Saatchi

Written by AdNation Editor, Tuesday, 08 June 2010

Saatchi & Saatchi's Dubai office. Not just some random building. Honest. The restoration of Saatchi & Saatchi MENA's reputation has taken another step forward with the appointment of Adil Khan as regional CEO. Khan was previously CEO of strategy, international business and development, MENA, at Y&R.

Hopefully, Khan's arrival will mark the end of the wave of departures and in-fighting which, over the last few years, have made Saatchi the most interesting trainwreck in town for us media rubberneckers - seeing an agency widely regarded as the most creative in the region disappear off the awards radar to become the source of some of the best bitchy rumours in town.

The last regional CEO, of course, was Elias Ashkar, who survived about a year - overseeing a major HR overhaul - before, erm, resigning - that's the word - in early 2010.

That Saatchi awards shelf has already seen something of a revival thanks to a good showing at this year's Lynx, including a Grand Prix.

Khan joins a Dubai-based management team including Ben Roberts, regional human interests director; Kristine Varma, regional CFO; and regional creative director Marc Lineveldt.

In the press release, Khan says, "Saatchi & Saatchi has always been a big draw for me; it has stayed relevant in an ever changing environment and is an incredibly restless company, never taking its success for granted. Those are the values I most admire. I am excited at the prospect of steering the agency to the next level of success and being part of a highly charged and talented team."

"Restless company" - that's a nice way of putting it. Wish we'd thought of that instead of "trainwreck". Ah well.
