Cannes Lions organisers have announced two more jury heads for next year’s competition, with PR and Promo & Activation bods coming on board following Mark Tutssel’s appointment last month to the Film and TV juries.
Hill & Knowlton global CEO and chairman Paul Taaffe is presiding over the PR jury, and is looking forward to having entries next year that, if not kicking arse, will definitely prod some buttock.
“Last year, PR agencies were newbies, and so two-thirds of PR Lions submissions worldwide were from advertising agencies. This year, the global PR industry has no excuse. Creative thinking is the key to great communications and I look forward to chairing an international PR jury in a year that I’m sure will raise the bar around the world,” said Taaffe in a press release.
Come then lads (and ladettes), what are you waiting for? Do you want to see Leo Burnett win again with some stupid damn scribble? Well do you? DO YOU??
(NB: Just to be clear, we do actually like Khede Kasra. It’s just, it is from an ad agency. So, you know, in the context of Taaffe’s comments... Anyway, carry on.)
Next up is Tina Manikas, global retail and promotions officer at Draftfcb. She’s taking on the role of El Presidente of the Promotion & Activation jury, and is equally – if not more – psyched up by the prospect of the competition.
“I am more than excited to have been selected to be the pm
resident of the Promo Lions Jury in 2010," said Manikas in the release (see, we told you).
“The Lions honour truly outstanding creative ideas and executions, and our jury will be inspired by many, while others will become the subject of intense debate. In any case, I am sure we will all find the experience educational, enlightening and, from what I've been told, more than a little exhausting. I can't wait!” she added.
Both Manikas and Taaffe have all sorts of experience at doing... whatever it is that they do, so they’re probably qualified and stuff. Plus they have fancy-sounding titles, and probably wear nice shoes.
Philip Thomas, CEO of the Cannes Lions festival, evidently agrees: “As the world’s most coveted awards in advertising and communications, it is essential that we appoint only the best global leaders to chair the juries. We are therefore privileged to have such distinguished and greatly admired professionals such as Paul and Tina at Cannes Lions to lead the way forward.”
Rock on.
