Auckland-based Special Group won the Direct Grand Prix for its F-word heavy campaign
featuring rocker Iggy Pop for New Zealand ISP Orcon Broadband.
The campaign was based around finding eight New Zealanders to rerecord Pop's classic song "The Passenger". The selected musicians used Orcon to connect with him in Miami.
Advertising Age reports that the Cannes jurors described "Orcon & Iggy Pop" as "one of the best uses of celebrity they had ever seen".
Meanwhile, TBWA\Chiat\Day, Los Angeles, made a great start to the festival, picking up two Grands Prix (Promo and PR) for its "Replay" campaign
for Gatorade, in which two high-school football (American-style) teams play a rematch 15 years on. The build-up to the game was tracked online, while the actual game aired on Fox Sports Net.
One entry - which has remained anonymous - upset the PR jury, according to Ad Age, as the agency and client stated in the entry that "we had no money, so we turned to PR".
